We’re excited to announce that this month, our Navigator team received sensitivity training when working with transgender/nonbinary clients as well as those who are HIV+. The training was facilitated by David Baker-Hargrove, Ph.D. – co-founder and CEO of 26Health, a non-profit organization based in Orlando that offers primary care, mental and substance misuse care, and other important services to support the wellbeing of the local LGBTQ+ community.
The training focused on how to use appropriate language and terminology when working with these communities, as well as how to communicate with them in a way that shows respect for their identities. It also covered how to approach sensitive subjects such as gender fluidity or sexual orientation without making assumptions about someone else’s identity based on what they look like or what they’re wearing when you meet them for the first time!
We hope this training will help us create an even more inclusive environment at Covering Central Florida, giving all members of our community access to basic healthcare no matter who they are or where they come from.
